Anne Mee

I grew up in a church-going family in Leicester and I was baptised at 16. When I left school and went away to London I continued going to church for a while but things started to slide. Later in life just before I had children I returned and when I had children I started to go back regularly.

The big turning point came with the move to Arnesby Baptist Church. I knew I was ‘home’ and I was finally ready to ‘listen’ and to ‘hear’ the word of God - to be fed spiritually. When I look back I can see how even during the bad times when I went away from Him, He protected me. He is here now, our strength and our refuge, to guide and to lead us on to be with Him. I no longer fear life because He is there to listen, to answer prayer. He exhorts us to: Rejoice, always. Pray continually. Give thanks in all situations. For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. Since knowing God and praying to Him, both individually and as a family, He has answered so many prayers. I am so grateful to Him.

GILLIAN GEARY

I grew up going to church and knowing about Jesus. He was very real to me.

But there were also some years I spent feeling anxious, timid and full of self doubt, (through exams, college, living away from home, and early adult life. ) It was at a moment of feeling so very tired of these burdens, realising that as hard as I worked to get things right, life still seemed very hopeless and I recognised the helplessness I felt.

I asked Jesus to take my burdens and forgive me for turning away and not trusting him completely. I felt a freedom in that and for the first time, calm through certainty about the hope I had in HIM and the eternal life,  promised.

Gillian lives in Arnesby with her husband Marck.  Gillian is the Church secretary and loves getting to know new people.  She is a friend and encouragement to many and is very involved with the churches activities among local ladies and older people.

ELLIE LING

From a very young age I used to lie awake at night thinking about deep questions.

Thankfully, my parents were there with answers from the Bible, which made complete sense of everything for me. I felt very strongly that there was more to life than meets the eye, and the world was not as it should be! They explained that this good, good God had made it perfect, but humans had rebelled against Him, meaning we were all now broken and lost. BUT that God Himself loves us all so much, He came down (as Jesus) and died to pay for everything we’ve done wrong.

One day I sat with my Dad and accepted that free gift of forgiveness and reconciliation, by simply telling Jesus I was trusting Him with my soul!

Of course I have never stopped being someone who pursues the truth, and the Bible has always proved to be absolutely trustworthy. There’s so much more I could say! I’ve devoted myself to this message, because once you really understand it, you realise there’s nothing more important. I’m still a total perfectionist. But I find great peace in knowing God isn’t asking me to be perfect, and joy in knowing He will remake the world one day - putting everything right.
